Athens County Fast and Free Tax Assistance Center unable to take any more new appointments in 2010

The Athens County Fast and Free Tax Assistance Center is unable to take any more new appointments this year. All appointments that have already been scheduled will still be kept.

The center, which is run by Athens County Job and Family Services, is being forced to close its doors due to state budget cuts and a lack of volunteers able to work in the center. The budget cuts forced Athens County Job and Family Services to lay off personnel and reduce its workforce in 2009, and now the agency is unable to adequately provide staffing to work with the volunteers in the center.

Athens County Job and Family Services apologizes to any area residents who are inconvenienced by the closing.  ACJFS appreciates the community volunteers who have sacrificed many hours so far this year to help as many residents as possible.

Area residents looking for assistance with their taxes can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or the Ohio Benefit Bank at 1-800-648-1176 in order to find the nearest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance center.

In addition, area residents can receive free on-line assistance and file their taxes on-line by logging onto the Ohio Benefit Bank Web site at www.governor.ohio.gov/obb, or www.ohiofilesfree.com.
